How to give a dog a liquid supplement

Giving a liquid supplement is easier than a pill and easier than most people expect. The only real skill is doing it the same way each day, so it becomes part of a meal rather than a task you have to remember.

Over food, not into the mouth

The gentlest way is over food. Add the dose to the normal meal rather than squirting it into the mouth — it avoids the struggle, and a flavored liquid (beef and apple) blends in. For most dogs the bowl is the easiest, calmest place for it to happen.

Measure for the weight

A full dropper is 1 mL, and the serving follows your dog’s weight — the label lists the amount for each band. Draw that amount, no guessing. A measured dose is something you can repeat exactly, which is the entire point of a daily routine.

How to give a dog a liquid supplement

1. Shake

   Shake the bottle briefly before each serving.

2. Measure

   Draw the serving for your dog’s weight. A full dropper is 1 mL.

3. Serve over food

   Add it to the normal meal, once daily.

4. Repeat daily

   Tie it to a meal you already give, so it becomes automatic and gets judged over weeks.
